There are so many choices out there for carpet's some are luxurious and others seem industrial and hard but both have their trade offs. Let's do a carpet material comparison.

A comparison of natural fibres versus polypropylene. Comparing the two extremes of residential carpets.

Carpet Material Comparison

Wool Carpets

  • Recovers quickly from furniture compression

  • Good soil hiding capabilities

Cons:

  • Requires more regular maintenance and professional cleaning

  • Can fade when exposed to direct sunlight over time

  • May harbor allergens like dust mites

  • More difficult to clean when stained

  • Not ideal for homes with pets due to cleaning challenges

Polypropylene Carpets

Pros:

  • More affordable than wool options

  • Highly stain-resistant and moisture-resistant, not susceptible to browning

  • Colourfast and resistant to fading from sunlight

  • Low maintenance and easy to clean, suitable for most chemical cleaning solutions

  • Non-allergenic, doesn't attract dust mites

  • Good value for money

  • Ideal for children's rooms and areas prone to spills

  • Water-resistant properties

Cons:

  • Not as luxurious or comfortable underfoot as wool

Environmental concerns as it's derived from petrochemicals and not biodegradable
